How absent minded can someone be to lose a Richard Serra?

Ha. Yes. 🤔

Thanks for gathering this all into this beautiful little roundup. So many miracles on display! So little time. I would move to Madrid for the Prado alone. And maybe the boquerones.

I would go back for churros too, which I somehow missed.

I was struck by the difference in tone, color, & light in the two Goya paintings. The 3rd of May is dark & foreboding, with the one singled-out individual highlighted. As always I'm amazed at the depth of background (reading, viewing, thought) you put into posts like this one.

Thank you! The 2nd of May is so much less known that I’d never really compared them until they were side by side.

The Reina Sofia left me cold, but the Prado and Thyssen thrilled me on two visits to each. You could go every day for a month and still wonder what you’ve missed.

For me, I think my expectations for the Reina Sofia were too high—- and yes, a day isn’t nearly enough for the Prado.

I also found that the Prado gave me appreciation for paintings that I didn’t know I would like. The two exhibits in NYC sound really interesting!

My husband and I had so much fun at the Prado – moving from stodgy pieces commissioned by the rich and powerful, to artists like Goya eventually getting to do their own, weird thing. Our favorites were all the bizarre medieval demons and gremlins.

The Bosch! The museum is a container of multitudes.
