Ugh and wow. I hope AI will never be able to impersonate me, but no doubt it probably already can if it cared to.

I call AI the NOT/IT meaning not intelligent and not even an it. Yours stood for A hole. Keep writing and reading real people and we will survive this yuckyness. ❤️

Ha! Yes, you seem real. 😁

A really enjoyable read, Victoria. I liked how you slipped in all those emotional cues into the text. And a perfect choice of art to kick off with.

I'm sure I've already had one or two AI-generated comments on pieces and haven't noticed...And one of my essays was turned into an AI-generated "reel" by someone (they were upfront about it and offered to take it down if I wanted. I didn't respond but basically don't care what happens to my words after they have been published).

And I hope your mother's recovery goes well!

Thanks, Jeffrey. And what, I hesitate to ask, is an AI reel? So much— I throw up my hands.

The Dali was the last bit I added. I didn’t want use an AI image, or stock. I just don’t find those that interesting, or personal, I guess. But there was no obvious art either, for a change. I wanted to strengthen the memory idea and couldn’t quite fit it into the title and subtitle. Hence Dali, which also happens to be here in NYC. That made it more “real” for me— while evoking the surreal and hallucinations. 😁

It's when AI generates a short “vertical” video for showing on social media. Apparently.

I loved this piece in all its confounding complexity. Now we have a new pronoun to include...the /it.

AI intrudes on my emails, by identifying and summerizing what each person says on a group email, by answering in "my voice," which I carefully have to delete, and a few months ago I recieved an email saying that "it," Grok, had written an extensive Grokipedia of my life and my writing. "It" only made one mistake and uncannely got most tiniest details correct. I had a hard time convincing myself that my biography had not been written by a human. But I have decided that it is imperative to do if we are survive as real people writers. I just lifted my eyes off the page and saw in the upper left hand corner of my screen, Gemini was offering it's help!

BTW your mother is beautiful and very, very real.

Thank you! She is, isn’t she? She is/we are very lucky. Pronouns!!

Your mom looks so strong!

Congratulations on the novel. I had no idea you can coach AI audio for emotional inflections. Thank you for this candid post. And how awful to be emotionally manipulated by a fake comment. I’m not looking forward to that.

Yes to strong!

This AI audio-casting of characters is fairly new. My last audiobook was a biography and it was human-narrated by one person, who made those choices.

Fascinating and frightening

I felt I had to address AI too. Somehow "address" has two meanings here, one almost personal. And kudos to your mother. The cane is next! I'm happy to say my second broken hip has healed and I'm Fred Astaire.

That’s encouraging— thank you!

I enjoyed this post and think it is good to talk about how AI is in our lives, intentionally and not and how people feel about it. Good to know about that commenting bot. And I love the video of your mom! She looks like she is doing well with her recovery.
